- Description
- Thomas Price came to Dartmouth from Burlington, Ohio, as a high school All-American in football, having already signed a letter of intent to Ohio State. He was recruited by John Curtis, the freshman coach, and chose Dartmouth after being taken to Baker Library on a Friday afternoon to meet the players. He counts thirteen Black students in his class, thirty in the class behind and eighty in each of the two after that. He played on the undefeated 1970 team, majored in biology and became a cardiologist. He recalls being telephoned by coach Bob Blackman to help recruit a prospect from Baltimore, Stuart Simms '72, who became his roommate and captain of the football team, and describes never once entering a white teammate's dormitory room in four years.
