While the conversation about coeducation at Dartmouth started at least 155 years ago, coeducation did not become a reality until 1972. This exhibit marks the 50th anniversary of coeducation at Dartmouth, the most momentous change the institution has ever seen in its history. The exhibit explores the lead-up to that decision, the experiences of the first women students at Dartmouth, and the ways campus life and traditions have evolved in the half-century since then. This long and contentious story of coeducation at Dartmouth is told through primary source documents, including photographs, newspaper articles, student performances, flyers, and pamphlets.
